Up to $200,000
The city is accepting applications — checked October 19, 2026. According to its page, it serves applicants who have everything ready first, until the money runs out. It does not publish how much is left. Official source.
The most the loan can be, not what you will necessarily receive. It depends on what your household earns and on what you need.
The figures and requirements come from the official program page, checked on October 19, 2026. The status above comes from the last time we read the city’s page, with its date.
- How much: up to $200,000 as a loan, based on what your household earns and your need. It is a maximum, not what you will necessarily receive.
- How it works: It is a loan with no interest and you pay nothing each month. After 30 years you do not have to pay it back.
- Who: someone who has never owned a home, lives in the City of Miami today and buys a home inside District 5 priced up to $500,000, with household income within the cap in the table below.
- How to apply: with an application to the city. Its official page gives the steps and the forms.
The program is run by City of Miami, Department of Housing & Community Development. It provides up to $200,000 as a loan, based on what your household earns and your need.
It is a loan with no interest and you pay nothing each month. After 30 years you do not have to pay it back.
If you sell the home before the term ends, the terms change. It is in the list below. Before you sign, read the whole loan contract and ask the city anything you do not understand.
It is a program for someone who has never owned a home and buys inside District 5 of the City of Miami. A home in another part of Miami does not qualify for this program.
The income cap depends on how many people live in your household:
People in your household The most your household can earn per year 1 $114,480 2 $130,800 3 $147,120 4 $163,440 5 $176,520 6 or more $189,600 Besides the cap, the household has to earn at least $50,000 a year, whatever its size. Confirm with the city which one applies to you on its official page.
The home can cost up to $500,000.
This is what the program asks for and we do not ask in the assistance finder, or what is still to be confirmed:
- Never having owned a home: not owning one in the last 3 years is not enough.
- Living in the City of Miami today. The only exceptions are households with a current city or county police officer, firefighter or emergency medical worker, and city residents transitioning out of homelessness or who are victims of domestic violence.
- If someone in the household is a current police officer, firefighter or emergency medical worker, or active or retired military, the income limit is higher.
- If you sell before 30 years, you repay what you received and the city keeps a share of any gain in the home’s value.
- 1Check that this is the right program for youCompare this program with the others in Miami-Dade and Broward, using your own data, before you start gathering papers.See which programs could fit
- 2Check the zone and where you liveThe home has to be inside District 5, and you have to live in the City of Miami today. The city explains on its official page how to check both.
- 3Confirm what is still to be confirmedAsk the city about whatever is still open in the list above. Until it answers, run your numbers with the lower amount.
- 4Apply with the city, with everything readyThe city serves applicants who have everything ready first, until the money runs out. Its steps, forms and document list are on its official page and override any summary, including this one.
In the assistance finder you can compare this program with others in Miami-Dade and Broward, including the City of Miami’s other first-time buyer program, which does not require buying in District 5. The Assistance Tracker shows each program’s status with the date we checked it. This guide explains the terms, but it does not replace the city’s review of your case.
Will I get the full maximum? Not necessarily. The assistance is up to $200,000 as a loan, based on what your household earns and your need. It is a maximum: what you get depends on what your household earns and on what you need.
Does it work for any home in the City of Miami? No. It has to be inside District 5 and cost up to $500,000. For the rest of the city there is a different first-time buyer program; both are in the assistance finder.
Can I apply if I live in another city in the county? Generally, no: you have to live in the City of Miami today. The few exceptions are in “Who can apply”. Confirm with the city before you spend time or money.
Do I have to pay the money back? It is a loan. How it is repaid is in “How much it provides and how it is repaid”. What happens if you sell before the term ends is in the list under “Who can apply”: read it and confirm it with the city.
Is money available today? The city serves applicants who have everything ready first, until the money runs out, and it does not publish how much is left. See the card above: it says what we checked on its page and on what date.
